Seemingly out of nowhere, Rick Ross drops a brand new mixtape titled The Black Bar Mitzvah as a promotional tool to promote the upcoming MMG Tour (tickets can be purchased here. Rick Ross uses all industry beats as a canvas to paint his dominance in the game at the moment. This tape features new verses from Rockie Fresh, Drake, Gunplay, 2 Chainz, and Slab. Along with Meek’s and Gunplay’s new singles, Ross adds a promo track promoting the upcoming MMG tour.
Ross sticks to his usual formula of adding a new verse to the beginning of complete songs and calling it a remix. He selects specific verses from the original to leave on the song {i.e. 2 Chainz verse in “Mercy”). He remixes hit songs like “Mercy”, “I Don’t Like”, “Bands A Make Her Dance”, “No Worries”, and “Clique” to name a few. He even enlists Peter Rosenberg from Hot 97 for his Bar Mitzvah lingo expertise on a skit. The song that stuck out most to me on this tape was what seemed to be the original version of “Presidential” with Pharrell on the hook. Ross added a fresh verse from Rockie Fresh for good measure.
There aren’t any new original songs on this mixtape but some new bars and it should not be missed. Ross understands this music marketing game very well and makes sure that MMG will stay at the forefront of your mind with new music. So as Peter Rosenberg would say, “Have a nosh” and enjoy this new project from Rick Ross. Anybody who misses this project is a meshugah in my eyes.
Must Listen Tracks: “Us”, “Clique”, “Presidential Remix”, “No Worries”, “911”
