TSL is back at it again, and this time, we’re taking a little musical trip down south. TSL Presents “THE GET DOWN” Hip-Hop. Funk. & Soul Dance Party. Inspired by the nightlife scene in New Orleans, The Get Down combines elements of a Live Band and DJ to make for an electric blend of Hip-Hop. R&B and Funk. This night promises to be an exciting & unique nightlife experience Boston’s never seen before.
Watched the “A Raisin In The Sun” play at Huntington Theatre, shared a few laughs with some good people, and showcased our new line at a B-Boy battle…twas a good week.
Had a breakfast chill session on Newbury st today with the homies D and Mel.
19-year-old UK ‘sole’ sensation, Elli Ingram, came across my radar just last night and I knew I had to share her oh so sexy rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s “Poetic Justice” with the rest of TSL nation. Just imagine Corinne Bailey Rae and/or Adele with a little more ‘umph’.
Side Note: I loved the “Yawk Yawk Yawk” insert at 2:28 from Kendrick’s “m.A.A.d city” track. Clever.

Nicole and Natalie are back with a force!
Last week, I stumbled upon a flyer for the All Girls Everything Tour featuring Nina Sky & DJ Roxy Cottontail at the Middle East in Cambridge, and best believe I jumped at the opportunity to see my Puerto Rican dancehall twins back in action. I went home, bought a ticket and then it hit me: I haven’t heard from Nina Sky since they teamed up with Reggaeton All-Stars, NORE and Daddy Yankee, for “Oye Mi Canto” in 2006. Yea, remember that?
So I did a little homework before I headed to the show and let me tell you, “your favorite twins” have moved on to a whole. ‘Notha. Level. Electro! And I have to say, I approve of the genre swing.
Their performance was nostalgic and full of energy and their new look is nothing less than fierce. I’ve never wanted a leather moto jacket more than I do now. Anyways, I’ll do you all the favor of providing you with their FREE album download link right HERE!
Make sure to check out their website, www.ninaskyhigh.com, their instagram (yourfavoritetwins) their facebook, twitter, youtube, WHATEVER! Just make sure you re-acquaint yourself NinaSky.
Hey young world! Hollywood here with some new music to kick off your Monday and bump too! Today’s TSL Mixtape Monday feature is rapper Consequence’s newly released “Movies On Demand” mixtape. Cons is back and this is the 4th installment off the popular series. Beats are so Solefull! Check it out!!!
Hey young world! Hollywood here and I’m back with another mixtape gem to get your Monday going! I’m about to take it back to Wale’s breakout mixtape, “A mixtape About nothing”. This creative mixtape was inspired by the all time classic sitcom “Seinfeld”. For those who may not know this, Wale is actually an avid fan of the show! This is clealy apparent as the mixtape is filled with samples from the show as well as frequent references to jokes and catch phrases from the series. Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the character Elaine Benes in Seinfeld, also appears on the mixtape. Enjoy!!!
DISCLAIMER: I may be WAY late on the Gizmo hype, but isn’t the saying “better late than never”?
Last week, at our Solefull Soiree, my ears were blessed with the sweet sweet sounds of Gizmo. I didn’t know it at the time, but what I was actually swaying my hips to was the sound of an accomplished Berklee bassist and music director who has worked with musical genius such as Talib Kweli, Bilal and Lalah Hathaway by the tender age of 21.
All I knew was that I struck iTunes GOLD! The next day, I was all over the web searching for that man in the over-sized, black-rimmed glasses and stumbled over YouTube video after video of live enlightened music. I say “enlightened” because his blend of Jazz, Latin, Hip Hop, Rock and spoken word sum up to create a genre of soul I can’t quite place into one existing musical category.
As a soldier in the war to bring back good music, I saw it as my duty to educate the rest of TSL nation about this gem that dwells within our own city . Fortunately for us, his debut album Red Balloons dropped in October and offers us his first showcase as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. So, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll be searching “Gizmo” in your iTunes or Amazon search bar as soon as you finish watching the video below.
I strongly encourage you to check out www.GizmoSound.com and take the time to read the man’s bio. Not only is it crazy impressive, but his explanation of his inspiration for Red Balloon will make you appreciate the sound that much more.
If you’re hip and hopped on the Gizmo train ages ago, please feel free to share your thoughts, favorite songs, Gizmo trivia, etc in the comment section below. If this is your first time listening, thank me later.
” ‘Lift Me Up’ exemplifies Gizmo’s ability to condense his disparate influences into a soulful marvel of a gem. ‘The song is reflective of a place where most of us have been, in terms of questioning what decision to make and where we’re going to end up’. “ -Gizmo Bio, www.GizmoSound.com
